Samsung ML-2855ND Monochrome Laser Printer Review
Spare a thought for the humble, black and white laser printer. Colour Inkjet All-in-ones all seem to develop these days get money, how can one compete Mono Laser? The answer seems to be more of the same as for small business and small workgroup laser a little faster and get a little more economical to run. This ML-2855DN is Samsung’s latest mid-range version.

Drag the entire front and you have access to the integrated drum and toner. This is not one of those rounds where a toner cartridge clips on a drum carrier, but the integrated cartridge has a life span of either 2,000 or 5,000 pages, depending on the model. Installation is easy, as the cartridge slides horizontally in the printer and finds a positive effect on the end of his journey.
You get both Postscript Level 3 and PCL 6 driver, so that this printer works well in any environment. There is no other software than this, apart from a simple status monitoring applet. Samsung provides drivers for Windows since 2000, Mac OS8, OS9 and OSX 10.1 and has from several incarnations of Linux, including Red Hat 8-9, Fedora Core 1-4, SuSE 8.2 to 9.2.
When we evaluated in the ML-2855ND 28PPM saw, we were as skeptical as we are normal. But while our results are not quite reach the full 28PPM, we manage 22.64ppm on our 20-page single-sided document. This was to test out 14.29ppm for the five-page, indicating that the throughput of the printer when it is in his stride length is not far from Samsung’s credit rating. Duplex printing is integrated in the ML-2855ND and reverse at selected sites sometimes feeds from the exit slit and then the second page to print. These are available with a speed of 12.2 pages per minute, or 6.1ppm, which is an appropriate speed for duplex printing of that class of machine.

The printer has a physical resolution of 600 dpi, which is a 1200 dpi print resolution with software enhancement. We could not see a big difference in the deterioration of the paintings with the help of our photo test piece, but fine streaks on the picture much more noticeable in the 1,200 dpi. Since the printed resolution of 600 dpi and was two seconds faster, there is little reason to use the finer print mode.
Photos are not the supporting pillar of black and white laser printer, of course, and business graphics were okay, but it was still noticeable in thin strips of dark gray clay. The paler colors tend to fade as well.
Print text, as is pretty much the standard these days for a mono laser, was very clean and crisp and perfectly suited for external reports and promotional material, as well as internal, day-to-day correspondence.
As I said, there are two capacity of the combined drum and toner, a 2000 pages, and offers the other 5,000 pages. With the higher capacity cartridge, which is a better cost per page, gives a figure of 2.23p, including 0.7p paper.
This is not do a particularly good figure, pretty much falls in the middle of the mid-range tape for mono lasers, but there are also some remarkable machines that do not do as well.
Verdict
This is a good, general-purpose monochrome laser printer, with useful features such as integrated duplex printing. It is compact and still produced pages with well over 20 ppm in real terms the office. Print quality for office documentation are in order and the ongoing costs in the middle of the pack. For less than 150, it would include sit well in any small groups or self-Office.
