Brother HL-4570CDW Review

March 9th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Brother, Printer Reviews

We thought we might save on some photos when we unpacked Brother HL-4570CDW color laser workgroup printer, if it seems so similar to the HL-4150CDN us again a few weeks. This printer is 130 more than the HL-4150CDN, though, and he gives you a faster print speeds and a wireless connection.

This machine is very similar to the HL-4150CDN, with the same black and cream colors and large, monolithic look and lower spec cousin. The 250-sheet paper tray under a fold-down, 50-sheet multi-purpose tray and a slide-out paper support has flip-open. Fine for occasional jobs, it’s not something you would want to leave, the support is a bit thin and may break if walked.

Brother HL-4570CDW Review

A further 500-sheet tray is available as an option, but we still feel a printer aimed at the working group should be able to more than 300 sheets of standard load. The top panel has no output tray, as such, complete with pages sit flat on the upper surface. There is a flip-up paper to stop at the end to keep clean.

The high gloss black control panel has seven buttons for menu navigation and to start and cancel print jobs. There is also a Secure print button, so you can hold a job until you get to the printer. The fold-up, 2-line 16 character LCD display has a yellow-green backlight. Just over the front edge of the printer is a USB connector for graphics printing files directly from a USB drive.

USB, 10/100 Ethernet or wireless connection, the choice is yours. If your wireless, you can link by using a PIN, enter a password or use a single touch them, if your router has one. All three are simple and the printer setup applet places and completes the connection.

As usual, drivers for Windows and OS X, and you can create a Linux version of the Brother Solutions site to oem software download. Both PCL6 and PostScript Level 3 emulation support is provided in.

The toner cartridges are pre-installed, but you must hit the front and slide out the rack holding them to different pads to remove before you can start printing. There is a separate drum, transfer belt and toner box, but these need no special preparation.

The HL-4150CDN is rated at 24 ppm for both black and color printing, while printer is faster specced 4ppm, 28ppm. Interestingly, the trial was a crossover between the two, with our five page black text print complete in 20 seconds on the ‘slower’ machine and 22 seconds on the “faster” HL-4570CDW.

Brother HL-4570CDW Review

When we moved to the longer, 20-page test, however, things were more like we expected, with the cheaper machine recording 19 ppm and it clocks in at 23.1ppm, not far off nominal speed. Duplex speed here 13.1ppm, while the HL-4150CDN could only muster 12.5ppm.

The quality of printing at this unit depends on the content of the page. For straight black text printing, it gives a good, clean, well-formed characters with few signs of artifacts. Color graphics are intense, but stand-dark, light blues and blues become a mid-mid-blues, dark blues. Black text on colored fills, and with little sign of haloing is sometimes difficult to read because of the blackout.

The effect can also be seen in photographic prints, where pale skies start to glower and shadow detail disappears altogether. These effects were not so clear on the HL-4150CDN and since both printers use the same color laser engine, it could just be variation from one sample to another. Nevertheless, the HL-4570CDW review not produce particularly good color printing.

In the few weeks that we re-HL-4150CDN, this new range of printers and supplies have become available through some discount channels. Like the standard and high-yield toner cartridges available on this machine, the HL-4570CDW also an ultra-high yield version, rated at 6,000 for black and color. Using this gives a consumables cost per page, including paper 0.7p, 10.1p from 2.7p for black and color, both are significantly lower than the previous machine.

This is still not economic, if you compare it with a machine like the £ 506 Samsung CLP-770ND. Page costs are 2.1p and 7.3p for black and color respectively.

Conclusion

Like its cheaper sibling, Brother HL-4570CDW is a solid, workgroup color laser printer. It is a bit faster and includes support for wireless networking, but the £ 130 difference between the two models still seems a bit steep. The print speed is fine, two-sided printing is convenient and operating costs are lower than before, but color printing is too dark and the default settings may need tweaking if you want to be reasonably accurate tones for pictures to get.

Brother MFC-6890CDW Professional Review

February 28th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Brother, Printer Reviews

The Brother MFC-6890CDW multifunction inkjet printer improves Brother MFC-6490CW multifunction, adding duplex capability and a touch screen. Although it could do with faster speeds, this A3 capable printer is still a valuable addition to the cost-conscious office.

The Brother MFC-6890CDW multifunction inkjet including USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections, wired connections with the two hidden under the cover of the scanner. PictBridge-compatible USB devices directly to the MFC-6890CDW and the multimedia card reader supports CompactFlash, SD, MemoryStick and xD media. The multifunction has a 50-sheet automatic document feeder.

Brother MFC-6890CDW Professional Review

There are two front-facing trays on A3 and A4 media separated and she is a total of 350 sheets. The A3 input and output trays must both be extended to accommodate more media, but overall, this printer is not a behemoth.

The multifunctional use of a 4.2in widescreen LCD touch panel. The quality of the screen is impressive, but it helps with menu navigation, and notifications settings. It stops responding during a task, but you can still access other functions when this is done by pressing one of the function buttons.

A final feature that is available directly from the MFC-6890CDW multifunction can restrict access to certain functions. Up to 21 users can be configured with password protection with help of discount software and different levels of access to the copy, fax, scan and print functions. You can also restrict users to print color or black and white.

The MFC-6890CDW multifunction does not provide a web-based interface, but remote control can be performed using an accompanying application (which is compatible with both Mac OS and Windows).

Brother MFC-6890CDW Professional Review

Print speeds are somewhat slow for an inkjet multifunction at this price. The Brother MFC-6890CDW is printed on the first page of a design monochrome A4 document in 13.5sec and the subsequent pages with a speed of 16.4 pages per minute. At normal quality, this speed drops to 4.8ppm. Color printing of documents about the same rate: 16.4ppm using draft quality and 3.4ppm using normal. The MFC-6890CDW multifunction, A3 black and white documents at a rate of 5.7ppm using draft quality and 3.2ppm in normal quality, A3 while the colors to print documents at 6 ppm and 2 ppm, respectively.

Printing is surprisingly fast, however. Using the “fine” setting, 4x6in photos printed in 22sec, and it took 1min 38sec to print an A4 photograph. A3 photo prints in 4min 40sec.

Print quality is quite good in general. A4 documents have crisp characters who manage to escape in search of black ink and color documents are vibrant without oversaturated. 4x6in photos printed on the lack of banding we found using the Brother MFC-6490CW. They have a fairly neutral color palette overall, this is not suitable for producing bright and very colorful pictures, but there are no major quality issues. Scans are fast and good results. Colors to match the original source and fine detail is shown sufficiently.

Scaling documents acceptable to print on A3 work, our test mono documents survived the transition to A3 without any problems. Unfortunately, our color test document suffered from severe horizontal colored stripes when it was scaled up to A3 and despite trying a variety of print settings, we were not able to grow these brands. Fortunately, this problem was not found in A3 photos, which had the same neutral color palette like their counterparts A4. The MFC-6890CDW multifunction inkjet not match the quality of dedicated photo printers such as the A3 Epson Stylus Photo R2880, but it will work well for in-house marketing materials. At 18.8c per A4 page, this multifunction is inexpensive supplies to help keep costs down.

Brother MFC-7440N Review

February 25th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Brother, Printer Reviews

We normally do not see a lot of multifunction laser printers, mostly because inkjets are simply better for printing high quality scans and photographs. However, the printer industry recently started to press the multifunction printer market, arguing that a laser cartridge can produce prints on a par with inkjets, but significantly better speeds. In the case of the Brother MFC-7440N, the latter is true, but the output quality is lacking. It has all the features of a multifunction printer including one-touch fax, optical character recognition scanning, customizable presets and an auto-feeding copier, but we would still prefer an inkjet multifunction for printing presentations and color scans.

Brother MFC-7440N Review

The Brother MFC-7440N is supposed to work in a variety of workplaces, including home office and work desktop, but Brother still has a lot to learn aesthetic. The plain gray matte finish of the rubber buttons on the control panel, there is nothing that this printer apart from ordinary, boring office printer design. While other manufacturers incorporate a distinctive style and unique design, the MFC-7440N looks like it is a few fashion tips from an Apple IIe. Looks aside, the unit itself is quite small at 12 cm high by 16.9 inches wide by 15.6 inches deep and weighs 24.4 pounds.

The Brother’s top loading automatic document feeder can hold 35 pages of original material for scanning, copying and faxing. Typical of most laser printers, the bottom loading paper input tray holds 250 sheets and can hold up to 8.5 inch by 14 inch legal size paper. Just above the input tray is Brother standard manual paper tray for printing labels, envelopes and other forms. The integrated output tray sits above the tray and is slightly recessed in the machine, but not to expand the printer, leaving you with a very tight to remove your finished prints. During our speed and quality tests, paper kept jamming in the tiny output slot.

Brother MFC-7440N Review

The narrow panel on the face of the printer contains a small, two-line LCD and a host of rubber buttons for navigation, a quick start keys, dial pad, and four single touch fax. The LCD screen is not backlit, making it difficult to read in low light. Moreover, to save space on the panel, there is also a shift button that effectively adds four extra quick-dial fax keys. Next to the fax buttons are a series of buttons for each function, including the hook, resolution and again for the fax machine, and options to enhance the safe and copier and cancel buttons for the printer. The secure button makes it easy to access data stored in memory by introducing a self-selected four-digit password.

The MFC-7440N ships with a low level toner that will last for 1,000 page cycles. Brother sells a $ 50 standard replacement cartridge with discount software good for 1,500 pages and a high yield version 2600 for $ 65. About three cents per page, the cost competitive low compared with the average laser printer, but standalone laser printers will work for less (about two cents per page) do. In both cases, the cost per page for this Brother printer is absolutely unsuitable for a small to medium business environment.

Along with the typical USB cable, Brother includes the option to connect multiple users via the built-in 10/100 Base TX networks. It also has 32MB of onboard memory for storing data directly, but we have recently seen other printers in the same price range that have 64MB of memory.

Brother MFC-7440N Review

The Brother MFC-7440N performed reasonably well in our speed tests, on a par if not slightly faster than the average single and multifunction monochrome laser printer. We put it up against the Canon IMAGECLASS MF4270, a full-feature All-in-One and the Dell 1125, another mono laser multifunction. The Brother easily pulled ahead in the text and graphics speed tests, but suffered the most dramatic in black and white scanning: it scanned a black and white documents at a rate of 4.48 pages per minute, while Dell ended in May 1125, 96 pages per minute and the Canon burned at 12.19 pages per minute.

However, we want the print quality was as impressive as his speed. The text print tests on both 300 dots per inch (dpi) and 1,200 dpi. Each came out dark and consistent across the board with barely noticeable jagged edges in both large and micro-fonts, but it is fairly typical for a laser printer to produce quality text results. Unfortunately, we printed the graphics leave much to be desired. The grayscale graphics test showed visible cross hatching and stripes in black to white run, and a heavy amount of compression in the darker areas. The 600 by 2,400 dpi scans showed the best from all the features we tested, with excellent color reproduction and crisp, clean lines.

Brother MFC-9840CDW Review

February 24th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Brother, Printer Reviews

The Brother MFC-9840CDW is a multifunction color laser printer, copier, scanner and fax machine with wired and wireless networking capabilities. It’s not cheap, but if you are looking for a versatile machine that does its job well, the MFC-9840CDW is a worthwhile investment. Can be a bit tricky to use, especially when you set up wireless printing, but you end up with a high quality output that’s produced quickly.

Brother MFC-9840CDW Review

Setting up the MFC-9840CDW is a breeze. After turning on the machine and installing the toner cartridges, you have three connection options: Ethernet, USB 2.0, or 802.11b / g wireless. Connecting via USB is as simple as it sounds. And when we connected to the device via Ethernet, the MFC-9840CDW automatically appeared as a Bonjour printer. The trickiest connection setup was the wireless, which required setting up IP printing. The manual, however, has a good job of directing you through this process.

The MFC-9840CDW panel is well designed and clearly labeled. Three big buttons let you choose between the fax, scan and copy functions. The control panel consists of rubber buttons that are pleasant to use, and a bright, backlit LCD clearly displays the settings you choose.

The MFC-9840CDW includes a convenient automatic document feeder to make copying easy. A nice bonus is the ability to copy double-sided documents by pressing the Duplex button. Disappointingly, the included scanning software (buy software online) does not offer flexible scanning options. However, it is easy to use and simple.

Brother MFC-9840CDW Review

The MFC-9840CDW outputted very good results overall, impressive our panel of experts. Text quality looked clean and professional, earning a very good assessment. In our test print of a picnic photo, the colors overall were on the lighter side, but the picture looked nice overall, earning another very good assessment. The scanner output looked slightly dark compared to our control image, but the device captured fine details and the overall picture was clear and realistic. The MFC-9840CDW’s copier received a Good rating: in a test sample of a magazine cover, some details lost, and blacks looked a bit boring.

The MFC-9840CDW’s print speeds were impressive. It took just under 40 seconds for a ten-page Word document to print, and 15 seconds for a page, Word document to print. Color scanning was a bit on the slower side: it took 1 minute and 11 seconds for an 8-by-10-inch photo scanned at 600 dpi.

On top of being an excellent all-around MFP, the MFC-9840CDW includes bonuses such as a duplexer and wireless connectivity that make it a great value. Creative Mac users would appreciate more advanced scanning software, but the MFC-9840CDW high-quality prints and scans should alleviate such concerns to some extent.

Brother MFC-9320CW Review

February 22nd, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Brother, Printer Reviews

Some multifunction printers (MFPs, also known as all-in-ones or AIO’s) provide many functions. Others emphasize high-quality prints. The Brother MFC-9320CW is aimed squarely at speed, with the fastest overall time on our tests of its price range. If print speed is one of your main concerns may be only the color MFP you want.

The MFC-9320CW is an LED printer, a category that’s usually grouped with lasers, because it is actually a variation on the same technology. The difference is that instead of using lasers, LED printers use LEDs for the image of each page set as the first step in printing.

Brother MFC-9320CW Review

The natural home for the MFC-9320CW is a micro or small office with relatively light printing needs. The printer offers only a 250-sheet tray and a 1-sheet bypass tray as standard as well as maximum, no duplexer for printing on both sides of a page.

This level of paper handling can also be appropriate for a home office or as a personal printer, but relatively large size of the MFC-9320CW’s would be a tight fit. At 15.7 by 16.9 by 19.3 inches (HWD), it is a bit large to easily share your desktop, and many people might find the 50.5 pounds of weight a bit too heavy for easy move. If you do not mind the size and weight, but the printer can be neatly into a home office or as a personal printer sitting near, if not, your desk.

Besides printing, the MFC-9320CW scan and fax, even over a network, and work as a standalone copier and fax. Office-centric features include a 35-page automatic document feeder (ADF), which can scan, fax, copy and easy multiple-page documents, and handle legal-size pages that are too big to fit on letter-size flatbed . The printer can also print from and scan to a USB stick, and even print directly from a PictBridge camera, a feature that can be useful in such an agency, not to mention in a home office to the photos are intended for printing a refrigerator door, for example.

Unfortunately, the quality of export for the MFC-9320CW is not as impressive as his speed. However, the text, graphics and photo quality are all good enough for most business purposes, and in the range where the vast majority of color lasers fall.

Brother MFC-9320CW Review

More than half the fonts on our text tests qualified as both highly readable and well formed at 6 points, no more than 8 need for both thresholds, and more than half qualified as very readable, but not well formed, even at 4 points. Unless you need a very demanding desktop publishing, or a highly unusual need for small fonts, you need more than satisfied with the text quality.

Graphics quality was a match for most color lasers, with output that is easy enough for any internal business use, but with obvious defects. I saw a few small stripes in a graphic, visible dithering in the form of mild patterns in different, a slight misregistration (small slices of white showing on the borders between blocks of a fixed number of colors) and a tendency for thin lines disappear, although many printers do much worse with thin lines. Depending on how demanding you are, you may or may not consider the graphics good enough for, say, PowerPoint handouts. They are not quite the level I would want for the marketing materials like trifold brochures or mailers page.

Buy Brother MFC-9320CW at Amazon

Picture quality is on the low end of the range where most color laser printers fall. Here again, I saw dithering in the form of mild patterns in some photos. In other colors were slightly off, with apples looked a little too orange, for example. I also saw a slight tint in some shades of gray in a black and white photo and some kick-aliasing in the spokes of a bicycle wheel in another. Here again, depending on how demanding you are, you may or may not consider the pictures that are suitable for a client newsletter or something similar for example discount software. However, they are certainly good enough to be recognizable photo printing from web pages.

Brother MFC-9320CW Review

When I reviewed the Brother HL-3070CW, which is essentially the single-function printer version of the MFC-9320CW, I pointed to the relatively high operating costs based on list price of the toner cartridge and drum unit , as given by Brother. With the single-function printer to sell for a while, Brother says it’s in a better position to give an accurate street price. Based on the current street prices for consumables, running costs amounted to 3.5 cents for monochrome page and 15.5 cents for color. These prices are comparable to the cost per page for similarly priced printers, which indicates that the operating costs are not a problem.

If you do not need an automatic duplex unit or expect a lot of pages to print, and care more about speed than the output quality, the MFC-9320CW offers a complete set of the MFP functions and the top speed for the price.

Brother MFC-8890DW Review

February 17th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Brother, Printer Reviews

Brother MFC-8890DW monochrome multifunction produces high quality documents at a fast pace, and it has wireless connectivity. We were not impressed by her messy and indiscriminate control panel web interface, however.

The Brother MFC-8890DW is premium monochrome laser multifunction printer. Aimed at small to medium workgroups that do not need color printing, the MFC-8890DW offers integrated Wi-Fi and a secure print function. It is not a high price tag. Unfortunately, this printer is hampered by unintuitive control and simplistic web-based interface.

Brother MFC-8890DW Review

The design of Brother MFC-8800 series has not changed for some time, and MFC-8890DW monochrome laser multifunction looks almost identical to the MFC-8860DN. Although not push the envelope in the printer design, is compact and inexpensive without sacrificing features.

For a lower price than the MFC-8860DN get an automatic document feeder, automatic duplex and a toner bay easily accessible. Together with the expected USB, Ethernet and parallel port connections, the printer offers Wi-Fi. A USB port on the front, you can scan to and print directly from USB flash drives.

Our only concern with the design of the multifunctional his panel, which is cluttered with buttons on the resolution, duplex and tray settings. Like the Samsung CLX-6210FX, it would be better if these functions are accessible from an on-screen menu. Some of the labeled buttons are confusing, too. For example, press an arrow key instead of “OK” to enter a function, and the “Stop / Exit” button is “Clear / Back” to exit. And you can not change between the copy, scan and fax functions without returning to the main menu first.

In contrast, web-based interface of the Brother MFC-8890DW is too simple. It can be used to configure basic network settings, but lacks any significant measures such as an IP filter or 802.1X authentication. Default settings for the printer, duplex, fax and copy functions are available, but you can not configure the scanner via the web interface.

Brother MFC-8890DW Review

Despite the panel a bit frustrating, the MFC-8890DW monochrome laser multifunction individual functions are easy to configure and use. Wi-Fi can be configured and initiated directly from the multi-functional, as well as over a wired network or USB port using the included installation CD. Only one network interface can be used at a time, but the multi-saving settings disabled interface, making it easy to switch between them.

Secure printing is also a handy feature, allowing you a print job to the Brother MFC-8890DW with an appropriate password. The multifunctional will only print the document time password, to prevent wandering eyes from seeing sensitive information.

Scan options are extensive, allowing you to scan for a local or networked PC, a USB flash drive, an e-mail or an FTP server. Depending on where you are scanning, the MFC-8890DW monochrome laser multifunction not always tell what type of file will be saved as scan, but it supports JPEG, XPS, PDF and secure PDF files. You can also start an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) process to a multi-functional computer on the network.

The Brother MFC-8890DW monochrome laser printer prints black text documents at a consistent rate of 33 pages per minute when using the 300 and 600 dots per inch (dpi) quality settings. When using 1200dpi, printed with a speed of 10.6ppm, while below the highest setting HQ 1200 pages on an average of 5.1ppm.

Brother MFC-8890DW Review

While printing at the same resolution, the difference between 1200 and 1200 dpi HQ is immediately noticeable. When printing documents with higher quality settings are sharper and more accurate across a range of text sizes 7pt to 20pt. Quality of the document overall is fantastic, especially for the price. Monochrome graphics are much darker and have a higher contrast than the Samsung SCX-5835FN, but it will not replace an inkjet printer for presentation graphics.

Using a high-yield 8,000 page toner, Brother MFC-8890DW monochrome laser multifunction costs 2.6c per page, this is extremely cheap cost of a printer in this price range. Combined with an integrated wireless and secure printing functions, it makes for a great multifunction for the office. The only caveat is the control method.

Brother MFC-J615w Photo Printer Review

February 10th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Brother, Printer Reviews

The MFC-J615W is one of a new range of inkjet all-in-ones Brother, which slots in the higher end of its abundant supply. Terms in office, it’s more of the same and it is designed for home and small offices, with both fax and photo processing add to the core trio of printing, copying and scanning.

All dressed in gloss and textured black, this machine follows the lines of many others in the portfolio of Brother’s, with the gently sloping top panel slide down to a full width panel on the front and equipped with a 30-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF ) for copying, scanning and faxing.

Brother MFC-J615w Photo Printer Review

ADF’s brother works in the opposite direction of most others, feeding the top of the flatbed cover with a pair of supports directly above. There is no reason why it ought not works as well as the top-to-bottom approach used by most other manufacturers.

The control panel has been simplified, with only the keys necessary for the various machine functions. There are a number of keys on the left for the fax number and access code when setting up a wireless connection. On the right of the LCD screen are four illuminated buttons for fax, scan, copy and photo captureand you don’t need to buy software. On the right side of this is a diamond of navigation keys, with an OK button in the middle and the extreme right are two buttons for color and monochrome jobs and a single stop button.

The widescreen LCD has a 81mm diagonal, a bit smaller than the 84mm screen signature design was a Brother. The full-color as before and still benefit from the ability to simultaneously display photo thumbnails and selection choices side by side.

A 100-sheet plain paper tray slides in front of the machine and there is a 20-sheet paper tray mounted in the lid. To engage the tray you have to pull out the tape and putting forward hand – it’s a shame it’s not automatically selected when you choose to print photos.

At the rear on the left is the power and the other two connections for phone line and third handset, but the USB connection to be reeved around the machine as usual, which is more difficult than one connection on the rear.

Brother MFC-J615w Photo Printer Review

Many people who buy the MFC J615W will choose to connect via wireless and this is a simple two-phase installation. Just some security access to the printer to your wireless router and then the printer to find the setup software on the PC you’re using.

Drivers are for Windows and OS X and Linux separate Brother offers support via direct download. There is also a copy of your own suite and multi Nuance PaperPort 11SE.

Many printer companies are caught in the hype cycle speeds, but Brother is one of the worst of exaggerating. It claims a speed of 35 ppm black and 28 ppm for color, both in fast draft mode. However, when our five-page draft document is printed, we saw only 9.1ppm, less than one third of the rated speed. In normal mode, the printer managed 2.6ppm and 3.1ppm in black in color, about one tenth of the claimed speeds.

Scans and copies are easy to set up and perform, and the quality of the scans at the resolution of 1,200 dpi is acceptable for use in small offices, but the pictures suffer from some color distortion. This is also visible in photocopies, which are by far paler than the originals from which they were taken.

Black text printed in order, although even with the naked eye can see rough edges caused by weeks ink into the paper. This is more noticeable in bold. Fast mode text, effective design, is lighter in color but still fairly well formed.

Our first black text and color graphics prints showed a lot of banding and the colors looked very muddy. A complete restoration of the color heads, especially the yellow, picked out, but considering this was a brand new machine and not one that had done a round of reviews, we were disappointed. After cleaning, pictures came out light and well balanced, but were over-dark shadows.

Brother MFC-J615w Photo Printer Review

The MFC-J615W only standard-yield cartridges, so running costs of 2.4p 9.2p for black and the color cartridge at the best prices we could find on the internet. The black cost is reasonable for this class of machine, but the color is a bit high compared to some of his rivals.

Conclusion

This is another workable all-in-one Brother offers a similar value proposition for many other machines in its range of inkjet. However, there is little significant improvement in speed, print quality or feature set of what has gone before and it would be good to get some innovation in the new models to see Brother. It looks pricey by some of its competitors, too.

Brother HL-2270DW Printer Review

February 8th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Brother, Printer Reviews

Inkjet printers, beware – laser prices are now firmly in your territory. The Brother HL-2270DW laser printer, which is on the high side of the new 2000 line of Brother printers (itself at the low end of Brother’s laser printer line). The HL-2270DW only sells for about $ 150.

Brother HL-2270DW Printer Review

Of course, all things are not equal with inkjet printers. First, the HL-2270DW is a monochrome printer, so if you are looking for photographs or print colored images, look elsewhere. But if your printing needs are text-only and you are busy keeping the low cost per page, this printer may be my first stop. A brief note about how the 2270DW is different from the rest of the 2000 line. Entry-level units like the 2140 and 2240 have only USB connectivity. 2270DW both the 2170W and adding wireless connectivity, with the latter offering built-in duplex printing also, both units are about $ 30 more than the basic models. Buy Brother HL-2270DW at Amazon BUY BROTHER HL-2270DW NOW AT A REDUCED PRICE! For the price, I think it 2270DW lot, and found it an excellent laser printer. First page took about 15 seconds to come out when the printer was idle for a while, but once it started, it was very fast, normal quality, on average three seconds per page. Switching to duplex print does not affect the sometimes very much, adding just a few seconds for the entire job. With a built-in duplexer is a great way to save money on paper, and if you are looking for more money saving ideas, benefit from the printer toner save mode, which acts as the Draft mode and saves toner.

Brother HL-2270DW Printer Review

Of course you do not want that when you print something important, but for normal jobs, it’s a great way for the life of your toner cartridge to be extended. The printer can accept both regular and high capacity toner cartridges – about $ 48 and $ 65 respectively, with print yield of 1,200 pages for the regular pattern of 2,600 pages for the high capacity cartridge. Results and print fonts were excellent, even at very small sizes. Wireless networking is easy to set up and spotless. The printer also has a relatively small footprint – approx 14.5″ x 14.2″ x 7.2″ and only 15 pounds. The manual feed slot only accepts one sheet at a time, if you use thicker media (up to 43 lbs bond) paper outputs on the back of the printer. Brother MFC-8480DN Printer Review

January 28th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Brother, Printer Reviews

Coming up with a winning design for a monochrome laser all-in-One (AIO) for a small office is simple. Start with a fast print engine. Then make sure the AIO can print, scan and fax over a network and work as a standalone copier and fax. Finally, add the main office-centric features, including a legal-size flatbed and a 50-page automatic document feeder (ADF) for handling multi-page documents. If it all together quite well, you wind up with something very like the Brother MFC-8480DN, monochrome laser AIO.

Brother MFC-8480DN Printer Review

There are two potentially important features missing from the MFC-8480DN: WiFi support and a duplex ADF on both sides of a page to scan. To access these features, you can find them in the Brother MFC-8890DW, and with them can certainly worth the extra price. If you do not either, but the MFC-8480DN is more economical choice. According to Brother, the two research assistants are identical, so any comments in this review applies to both models.

Even without a duplex ADF, the MFC-8480DN scores well for the paper processing. It comes with a 250-sheet and a 50-sheet multipurpose tray, for a total of 300 sheets. It also includes a duplex printing unit for printing on both sides of the page. This should be enough for most small offices, but if you want more, you can create a 250-sheet tray for a 550-sheet total to add.

The MFC-8480DN is a little bigger than I’d like to sit on my desk, but it is surprisingly small for an AIO with a legal-size flatbed, with the overall measurement of 18.7 by 20.9 by 17.7 inches ( HBD). On either side, the flatbed is engine underneath the printer (and a little cross on the front and back), so the footprint is just 14.6 by 15.1 centimeters. 39.2 pounds, most people would be able to move them without help.

Setup is par for the course. First, find a place for the printer and remove the packaging. Then load the toner cartridge and paper, plug in the socket and telephone. Finally, you can create a network cable and start the automated installation routine from disc.

Brother MFC-8480DN Printer Review

The MFC-8480DN turned in impressive results sufficient for the 32-pages per minute (ppm) engine rating. I timed our business applications suite in a total of 6 minutes 3 seconds, making it convincingly faster than anything else we’ve tested in its price range or lower. Finding a monochrome laser AIO noticeably faster, you should move to the more expensive Lexmark X364dn, which came at 5 minutes even.

The printer also performed well on output quality, score better overall than most monochrome laser AIOs. Text was typical for a monochrome laser, but that’s a high standard. More than half the fonts on our tests were both highly readable and well formed at five points, and even heavily stylized fonts with thick lines passed both thresholds at 8 points. You have no complaints about the text quality business documents.

Graphics quality was a bit better than most monochrome laser AIOs can manage. The MFC-8480DN is a very good job with thin lines, a problem with most printers. I saw a few minor dithering in the form of mild patterns, but nothing really objectionable.

The closest I saw was a serious shortcoming that some slopes seemed almost spots instead of smooth transitions like, but that happened only in two of our test images, and even in those cases, the slopes of the line in the little smudge-like look . I have much more extreme examples of other printers. The output is certainly good enough for any internal business use. Depending on how much of a perfectionist you are, you may consider it good enough for the output goes to a major customer or a customer also.

Photos are as good as you’d expect from a monochrome laser for Web pages or client newsletters with photos, but not for anything more ambitious than that.

Also worth mention is Brother’s one year warranty. If you have a problem while under warranty, that Brother can not resolve over the telephone will send a replacement Brother printer, Brother paying the cost of shipping in both directions. Brother says that depending on what time of day you call for technical support, the replacement will usually come in one to three days along with instructions for returning the non-working printer.

Brother managed together an impressive balance of speed, output quality, functions, features and price, the MFC-8480DN – small office monochrome laser AIO makes.

Brother MFC-6490CW Printer Review

January 18th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Brother, Printer Reviews

MFC-6490CW printer is huge. Sharing a similarity more closely related to The Incredible Hulk, the world’s first A3 multifunction printer weighs a back-breaking 15.6 kilograms and measures 32.3×54.0×48.8cm. This is no ordinary home printer – the single place strictly in the domain of small and medium-sized offices. We almost had trouble finding an office large enough for the hulk given that nearly everything we reduced support around it.

Brother MFC-6490CW Printer Review

Destruction of our first thoughts about the look, the MFC-6490CW houses a full numeric keypad as well as many other options and buttons on the front, next to the 3.3-inch color LCD screen. The backlight fax, scan, copy and photo capture buttons add a nice touch, as supplies are all accessible from the front of the printer.

At the top is a 50-page document feeder, a flatbed scanner, a 3.3-inch color LCD screen and SD/CF/MS/xD/PictBridge connections. Wireless, Ethernet and fax connectivity feature, plus 64 MB of memory, and a maximum resolution of 6000x1200dpi round out the package. Inside, the color cartridges are a CMY BK configuration (ie, three colors and a black tank). Innobella that the color cartridges Brother supplies its high yield, and each color tank claims to be able to 750 A4 sheets of paper.

In an act we can do to put down temporary insanity on the part of Brother’s designers, the USB and Ethernet connections located underneath the flatbed scanner, which means that the strings to stabbing rather dangerous from a hole in the side of the printer.

Seeing as the MFC-6490CW multifunction inkjet is the first on A3 paper to treat our first test was – as you probably guessed it – a photo on the poster-size print.

We sent a 12-megapixel image source directly to the printer, the MFC-6490CW collected with a borderless color print to see. The printer interface is warning us that the process could be a lengthy one, what we do not realize is that we have the time to invade a small island and a celebratory cup of tea before the print had finally arrived. All it took 16 minutes to one unit color, borderless A3 results.

Brother MFC-6490CW Printer Review

Plain black and white pages fared a little better in the speed test, although still not as fast as we hoped. Our five-page test document took one minute 16 seconds to complete all, with the first page emerging after 27 seconds. On average, we managed a print speed of 15 seconds per page at normal quality – respectable, but not really commendable considering the size of this machine.

In terms of quality, apart from a few small marks on our color A3 printing on matte inkjet paper, we were quite impressed. However, this is certainly not to store photographs standards. Color printing on specialty photo showed it further because they lacked punch and sharpness, is flooded with details. We also found that the front edge of the page consistently was smeared on various paper sizes and types of media. A4 color printing also disappointed us. Patches of black color block ran, the blacks do not quite deep, rich colors that appeared on the screen to jump off the page at all. We suggest steering clear of plain paper color printing and instead head straight for specialty papers.

Black and white text was relatively sharp, but not perfect, this is not your normal crabs with laser-quality institutions. Our test scan showed the tables back in favor of the MFC-6490CW’s, 25 seconds to scan a 10×15, but the colors were not as spicy as the original source, and there was a reasonable amount of grain over the image. We also do not like how the printer is not automatically the size of the scan source to track.

Conclusion

We must Brother praise for breaking new ground with the world’s first A3 inkjet multifunction. It’s not quite perfect, given only average print quality on certain media, and it’s incredibly complicated, but for those in the market for a large format printer for under $ 350, it may just meet your requirements.
