HP Photosmart D110A Review
If the HP Photosmart e-All-In-One D110a had nothing to offer, it would still be worth it as one of the few Web-connected HP printers and the first with ePrint. The ePrint feature what could be better named email print function, you can simply set by sending a file attached to a printer-specific address from HP. The D110a is also worth considering, given for other reasons, including multi-function printer (MFP) and features very high quality graphics.
Similar to the Epson Stylus NX515, the D110a reasonably capable MFP for home use, easy to use Home Office, or both. Both printers can print, copy and scan, for example, and scan to e-mail (with your PC e-mail program), and both include WiFi support, but no fax function.
The printer cuts some corners, presumably to help reduce the price. Photo Centric capabilities for private use, for example, printing from memory cards, letting you preview photos on a color LCD display. However, the printer can only read SD, MMC and Memory Stick Duo format, and the screen is only 2.4 inches.
Even for home offices, boundaries, what is the D110a light stress, a remarkable lack of office-centric features. There is no automatic document feeder for scanning and no automatic duplex unit for printing (although there is a manual duplex printing in the driver). The main limitation is, however, the stingy input tray that can hold only 80 pages. If you print and copy only 20 pages a day, you have to load paper every four days.

Physical setup is typical for an inkjet MFP, consisting of little more than the search for a place for the 7.1-by 17.4-inches by 15.9 (HWD) printer, and load the two ink cartridges and paper. You can then use the automated installation routine from disc.
The D110a the speed is best known as tolerable, but not fast by modern standards, especially compared with the NX515 described. I time it to our business applications suite (using QualityLogic hardware and software for timing) for a total of 15 minutes 58 seconds. In comparison, the NX515 took just over half as much time at 8:32, and the Lexmark Artist S405 was 0:47. The D110a’s photo speed is also on the slow side, average 2:13 For a 4-by-6 and 5.46 for an 8-by-10. The 405 printed photos in less than half the time.
Graphics quality was superb, with bright colors, including fillings and sharp edges for lines and text. The only question I saw was a loss of 1-pixel wide bright lines on a black background, a problem that shows printing with most printers. The graphics are good enough for any private or business use up to and including output will be an important customer, you need to impress with your professionalism. It is even good enough to attract a professional graphic artist in recital.
In addition to the ePrint feature that I mentioned above, offers the D110a another neat trick: to print directly from the Web using Web applications. The two functions are to the extent that they depend both on the printer connected directly to the Web and that you both used to using the same HP ePrintCenter site.

According to HP ePrint works with 15 different file formats, including PDF, both the 2003 and 2007 versions of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel, JPG, BMP and other popular image formats. Just a file to an e-mail and send it to the address of the printer. There is no easier way to print from a handheld device or print remotely. You can send a file from your office, for example, printing at home.
Both worked ePrint and web applications, as promised, but keep in mind that to use the only way is through direct connection to a network. Since the printer does not have an Ethernet port, it means you have to use WiFi, which will be a problem if you do not connect to a WiFi access point in the network or built into your router.
Even if an access point, set up a wireless connection can be a problem. The printer supports WiFi Protected Setup (WPS) for one-button setup, and that is good if your access point or router supports it. But when it does like a I have Verizon FIOS, provided it must be set manually. In my tests the connection I always have, with the D110a’s report that the router is enabled a setting that was had in fact turned off. The issue that finally solved a HP representative, turned out to be total with a different attitude.
Despite the potentially frustrating D110a WiFi setup, there are a lot more than not, like, just starting with ePrint to print smartphones or pressure. The only real drawback is the small printer paper capacity. But if you do not print enough, the thing not thinking constantly refill the paper tray that a small price to pay for functions that must be paid by the Web Apps on the high quality graphical output. The combination is not down the line winner, but if you need the ePrint feature or high-quality graphics in a low-cost printer, it may well be your best choice.
