Canon PIXMA MX350 Review

March 15th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Canon, Printer Reviews

The PIXMA MX350 is a mid-range inkjet multifunction printer targeted at small or home office. It has an easy to understand interface and offers some useful business printing features such as an automatic document feeder. It is not designed to a high-volume office printer and velocities reflect this.

Canon PIXMA MX350 Review

The Canon PIXMA MX350 has a 2.5-inch LCD screen and a front-mounted control panel that allows you to print jobs without a PC (although Canon’s software for PCs more powerful control offers). A top-mounted automatic feeder makes it easy to copy multiple page documents.

The user interface of the Canon PIXMA MX350 is leaps ahead of the MX270 and MP550. Arranged along the top of the front, a click-wheel controls and well-marked around the bright and clear 2.5-inch LCD screen. The graphical display can be a bit slow to bring new menus, but the controls are intuitive and we had no problems using it.

The back of the Canon PIXMA MX350 has two RJ11 phone jacks (for input and pass-through of a telephone line), USB and Ethernet connections and an AC outlet. These connectors give the PIXMA MX350′s focus on home office – a built-in fax you can fax documents using a PC or the printer itself, while the wired network port means sharing between multiple PCs simple. The printer also offers integrated wireless networking. We chose a direct connection to our test Windows Vista PC with a standard USB cable.

While versions of Windows from XP to download and install printer drivers on the Internet for barebones printing, faxing and scanning, the installation of Canon’s printer monitoring software suite from the CD opens up a range of adjustments, maintenance and extensive usability options.

Canon PIXMA MX350 Review

We found the print performance of the Canon Pixma MX350 multifunction inkjet to roughly between the MX270 and MP550. The text is well down to size as small as 6pt treated. In Standard quality mode, the PIXMA MX350 pumps out 8.4 pages per minute monochrome, and the introduction of an image or color to the mix this figure drops to 4.8 pages per minute. This is slightly slower than the similarly priced PIXMA MP550 – if you’re going to print large amounts of documents, we would rather choose.

Despite being an office model, the Canon Pixma MX350 can produce reasonable printing when delivered with a high resolution digital photos. Fine detail is not particularly clear, and some blurring is evident in sensitive areas, but we have not noticed that vertical lines or grainy. The flatbed scanner is equally competent, with 1200×2400 images and text that clearly reproduce the most detailed picture.

The Canon PIXMA MX350 uses a black and a PG-510 CL-511 three-color cartridge. High performance versions of these patterns can be purchased, bringing the total printing cost of 23.6c per A4 page. This is slightly more expensive than printing with Canon MP550, but not excessive.

The PIXMA MX350 is an authorized printer that features a small office will benefit is. It is easy to use thanks to a thoughtful layout and printing both text and photo prints show no major shortcomings.

Canon imageClass MF4570dn Review

March 10th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Canon, Printer Reviews

Canon IMAGECLASS MF4570dn falls into the category most boring monochrome laser MFP. But it is also one of the rare examples of a product that puts together the right roles at the right way to a clear winner. Which in turn makes it more than a little interesting, with a balance of high speed, the richness of the MFP functions, and the price which is above the crowd. Even the weakest properties slightly below par text quality is good enough high-quality business documents.

Canon ImageCLASS MF4570dn Review

The MF4570dn is a bit large to share a desk, but still reasonably compact at 14.6 by 15.4 by 16.6 inches (HWD), making it easy to find space for the typical office or micro relatively busy home office it is for. Like the Brother MFC-7840W, printing, scanning and faxing even over a network, scan to e-mail through an email email from your PC program, and work as a standalone copier and fax. Another welcome touch is the 35-page automatic document feeder for scanning multiple documents, and legal-size pages that are too big for the flatbed.

Paper handling is a bit limited, there is no scope for additional charge. However, the printer offers all the input capacity of micro-most home offices need, with a 250-sheet main tray and a 1-sheet manual tray. It also includes a built-in duplexer for printing on both sides of a page.

Design was standard fare. I’ve MF4570dn on a network and used a Windows Vista system for my tests. One of the more pleasant surprises was the speed. The printer is rated at 26 pages per minute (ppm), which should be close to the speed you see a text file with no graphics or photos. More importantly, our business applications suite (using QualityLogic’s hardware and software for timing), but came in at 12.3-ppm, making it the fastest mono laser MFP in its price class that we’ve tested, and even faster than some more expensive printers.

Canon ImageCLASS MF4570dn Review

To get an idea of how fast this is, consider that the MFC-7840W is only 8.2 ppm. Even the more expensive Brother MFC-8480DN managed only 10.6 ppm. The current second place for speed or below the price range is the HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf MFP with a speed of 11.3 ppm.

Closest to the MF4570dn comes to having a weakness is the quality of exports, which is a bit below par for the text. Fortunately, a little below par for a monochrome laser is still fairly good quality. You would not want the printer to be used for serious desktop publishing, but unless you have an unusual need for small fonts, you need the text to find more than acceptable.

Graphic output is a contest for the vast majority of monochrome laser MFPs, and easy enough for any internal business need. Photo output is dead on one line, making it suitable for printing Web pages with recognizable photographs or print photos in client newsletters and the like.

Should be clear, the MF4570dn offers a lot to like and little to complain about. The combination of high speed, much of the MFP functions, ample paper handling, and output quality makes it a great fit for any small office. Most important, it will be hard to better for the price, or do to put it another way: For now at least MF4570dn is home and small office monochrome laser MFP that others will have to beat.

Brother HL-4570CDW Review

March 9th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Brother, Printer Reviews

We thought we might save on some photos when we unpacked Brother HL-4570CDW color laser workgroup printer, if it seems so similar to the HL-4150CDN us again a few weeks. This printer is 130 more than the HL-4150CDN, though, and he gives you a faster print speeds and a wireless connection.

This machine is very similar to the HL-4150CDN, with the same black and cream colors and large, monolithic look and lower spec cousin. The 250-sheet paper tray under a fold-down, 50-sheet multi-purpose tray and a slide-out paper support has flip-open. Fine for occasional jobs, it’s not something you would want to leave, the support is a bit thin and may break if walked.

Brother HL-4570CDW Review

A further 500-sheet tray is available as an option, but we still feel a printer aimed at the working group should be able to more than 300 sheets of standard load. The top panel has no output tray, as such, complete with pages sit flat on the upper surface. There is a flip-up paper to stop at the end to keep clean.

The high gloss black control panel has seven buttons for menu navigation and to start and cancel print jobs. There is also a Secure print button, so you can hold a job until you get to the printer. The fold-up, 2-line 16 character LCD display has a yellow-green backlight. Just over the front edge of the printer is a USB connector for graphics printing files directly from a USB drive.

USB, 10/100 Ethernet or wireless connection, the choice is yours. If your wireless, you can link by using a PIN, enter a password or use a single touch them, if your router has one. All three are simple and the printer setup applet places and completes the connection.

As usual, drivers for Windows and OS X, and you can create a Linux version of the Brother Solutions site to oem software download. Both PCL6 and PostScript Level 3 emulation support is provided in.

The toner cartridges are pre-installed, but you must hit the front and slide out the rack holding them to different pads to remove before you can start printing. There is a separate drum, transfer belt and toner box, but these need no special preparation.

The HL-4150CDN is rated at 24 ppm for both black and color printing, while printer is faster specced 4ppm, 28ppm. Interestingly, the trial was a crossover between the two, with our five page black text print complete in 20 seconds on the ‘slower’ machine and 22 seconds on the “faster” HL-4570CDW.

Brother HL-4570CDW Review

When we moved to the longer, 20-page test, however, things were more like we expected, with the cheaper machine recording 19 ppm and it clocks in at 23.1ppm, not far off nominal speed. Duplex speed here 13.1ppm, while the HL-4150CDN could only muster 12.5ppm.

The quality of printing at this unit depends on the content of the page. For straight black text printing, it gives a good, clean, well-formed characters with few signs of artifacts. Color graphics are intense, but stand-dark, light blues and blues become a mid-mid-blues, dark blues. Black text on colored fills, and with little sign of haloing is sometimes difficult to read because of the blackout.

The effect can also be seen in photographic prints, where pale skies start to glower and shadow detail disappears altogether. These effects were not so clear on the HL-4150CDN and since both printers use the same color laser engine, it could just be variation from one sample to another. Nevertheless, the HL-4570CDW review not produce particularly good color printing.

BUY BROTHER HL-4570CDW PRINTER NOW AND SAVE MONEY!

In the few weeks that we re-HL-4150CDN, this new range of printers and supplies have become available through some discount channels. Like the standard and high-yield toner cartridges available on this machine, the HL-4570CDW also an ultra-high yield version, rated at 6,000 for black and color. Using this gives a consumables cost per page, including paper 0.7p, 10.1p from 2.7p for black and color, both are significantly lower than the previous machine.

This is still not economic, if you compare it with a machine like the £ 506 Samsung CLP-770ND. Page costs are 2.1p and 7.3p for black and color respectively.

Conclusion

Like its cheaper sibling, Brother HL-4570CDW is a solid, workgroup color laser printer. It is a bit faster and includes support for wireless networking, but the £ 130 difference between the two models still seems a bit steep. The print speed is fine, two-sided printing is convenient and operating costs are lower than before, but color printing is too dark and the default settings may need tweaking if you want to be reasonably accurate tones for pictures to get.

Lexmark Interpret S405 Review

March 7th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Lexmark, Printer Reviews

It’s that time of year when the printer makers introduce new models and major players are ramping up their marketing machines. Lexmark has more than most to tell us, with a new ink system and the new touch-screen controls on some of its high-end models. Interpret S405, the new inks, but not on the screen and is intended as a medium-level all-in-one for home and small business use.

Lexmark Interpret S405 Review

Dressed in matte black and light gray, the S405 has polished highlights, like the top of its full horizontal Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). Paper is picked and rolled the ADF in much the same way as blank sheets are picked from a horizontal tray.

Blank sheets on this machine is fed by an almost vertical chute at the back, but this one has the innovation of a small slide, down his right hand, which guides the paper from A4 paper to fit. The output tray from the front, with a steeply inclined end, which flips up to capture output pages.

The panel, with its slightly illogical acrylic tape over the top, is very spacious, with a number pad for fax use and a simple four-button navigation set that, combined with the backlit 2-line by 16-character LCD display gives a good control of the functions of the machine. Four silver buttons above the screen to select copy, scan, fax and photo printing modes.

There is only one memory socket, which SD, xD and Memory Stick formats, but there’s also a USB connection, which is just as happy with a USB stick as it is with a PictBridge camera. There is a USB port and an Ethernet port for connecting the printer to your PC, but Wi-Fi is in for the ever-popular wireless option offer as well built.

Lexmark Interpret S405 Review

The ink system, called Vizix, all new and Lexmark has made the switch to individual ink cartridges and separate, semi-permanent print heads, no longer integrated into the cartridges. In this respect it is very similar to the recent Canon and HP designs, although Lexmark cartridges are a bit more awkward to slot in the head carrier. There’s the usual extensive collection of supporting oem software, including ABBYY FineReader Optical Character Recognition for. There is now a better integration with Word, too.

The new model range brings a little more realism with speeds. Lexmark employs 17 ppm and 11 ppm for black and color printing, respectively, but we saw five pages of 5.36ppm for black text, up to 6.78ppm in the longer, 20-page document. The black text and color graphics print speed of 4.11ppm a retuned. These speeds are not bad for an inkjet all-in-one, but are again extended by the sometimes lengthy process before the start pages of print – 26 seconds we saw in one case.

Buy Lexmark Interpret S405 at Amazon
BUY LEXMARK INTERPRET S405 PRINTER NOW AND SAVE MONEY!

Most all-in-ones have enough intelligence and memory pages to print while scanning a multi-page copying, but the S405 is only half way. Although it begins printing while scanning a page, it does not start scanning the next page until it has finished printing. Even so, the time of 1:16 comfortably beat the HP Officejet 6500, recently tested in the same price, which took 2:20.

15 x 10cm photo prints ranged from 43 to 52 seconds, which is very impressive for a machine in this class. This goes for photo viewing too, although perhaps we drop the ‘very’. Our test photos a good level of detail in both light and dark areas of the images and although there was less red than the original, this is less than one error too much red.

Lexmark Interpret S405 Review

Color on plain paper, as in business graphics, clean with no visible dithering patterns and registration of black text color is excellent. A color image shows lighter areas less than in some rivals of the machine, too. Black text is generally clean, but under a magnifying glass you can see some feathering into the paper fibers and overall print is a higher standard than in previous Lexmark All-in-ones.

Despite the new Vizix ink system, this Lexmark printer remains in a tradition of expensive consumer goods. Cartridges are available again as normal and Return program versions, with a discount on the return program items, as long as you agree to return empties to Lexmark. Cartridges are also available in two capacities, but even using the high-capacity XL that costs amount to 11.83p 4.70p for black and color. Compare this with the Canon PIXMA MX320, a machine costs only 75 pounds, equal to cost of 4.09p and 8.78p gives. All these costs are 0.7p for paper.

Buy Lexmark Interpret S405 at Amazon
BUY LEXMARK INTERPRET S405 PRINTER NOW AND SAVE MONEY!

High cost of consumer goods have nothing to do with print technology, of course, and are purely a marketing decision on how much to charge for the cartridges. Page costs remain hidden for most new buyers and can come as an unpleasant shock.

Conclusion

This is the first of the new range of Lexmark inkjet all-in-ones we studied and in general improvements are impressive. While the ink costs are still too high, the additional economy of individual ink cartridges, you not a three-color cartridge to throw away when an ink has been exhausted, a fee. Speeds are good and the print quality has improved, closer to Canon and HP standards.

Samsung SCX-4623F Review

March 4th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Printer Reviews, Samsung

We were recently impressed by the Samsung SCX-4600 all-in-one, it is most needed business features combined in an inexpensive device with good performance. The SCX-4623F, discussed here, the following model of the range and the company has added an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) and fax functionality to the mix.

This neat, all-black unit is full of friendly curves and wide edges and the lid of the scanner has a neat, 40-sheet built the tray hinges to improve access to documents through the feeder and the scanner lid lifts to books as sheets meet.

Samsung SCX-4623F Review

The full width panel is well equipped, given the price of the machine, and includes a backlit, 2-line by 16-character LCD display with a control ring surrounded by another, of blue LEDs. There are a number pad for fax dialing, but there are no quick-dial presets.

Two buttons on the left of the screen from Samsung offer additional useful features. The rear starts ID Card Copy function, where you can scan both sides of a card and have the machine to reproduce them on a sheet of paper. The button on the front handles screen printing, where the machine is a marked section or the entire screen of your PC or Mac with a couple of button presses button.

It is rather strange that neither of those two buttons is a legend, not even a stick-on label, so you should not forget what they do. There is no front panel USB port, which is unfortunate, but there is a button under the panel on which the whole of the scanner allows it to pivot part to get into a hand, in case of paper jams.

The main printer section of the machine has a 250-sheet paper tray with a sheet multi-purpose feed just above, and the machine is deep enough that the output of pages unwind with a convenient 25mm projection from the front of the machine so they’re easy to get without using discount software.

Connectors on the back are USB, and optional fax handset sockets, but there is no network connection, like the simpler SCX-4600, networking is not supported.

Samsung SCX-4623F Review

Fold the SCX-4623F panel, and you can get on the single-piece drum and toner cartridge, which slides in easily. Drivers are for Windows and OSX and Linux code is available for download. Simple applications are made for scanning and printing and the printer driver in particular has had a facelift and is clean and well-organized.

Samsung rates the all-in-one to 22 ppm, but our 5-page test print took 23 seconds to complete, with a speed of 13.0ppm. The 20-page document bumped it up to 15.6ppm, not far off spec and a very reasonable performance for such device. A single-page copy took 12 seconds and a 5-page copy from the ADF completed in a spicy 25s. Finally, a 15 x 10cm on A4 photo took 14 seconds, so you get four in one minute. The print quality is generally up well, too. Text of the improved resolution of 1,200 dpi print engine is clean and sharp, with no signs of spatter and smooth shaped characters down to small point sizes.

Buy Samsung SCX-4623F at Amazon
BUY SAMSUNG SCX-4623F PRINTER NOW AT A SPECIAL REDUCED PRICE!

Grayscale graphics are smooth, with less patchiness than many low-end laser show. There are not as many tones as there should be, though, so different colors in an original may appear very similar grays. Photo print is reasonable, but as with so many mono lasers, dark tones tend to black unless you lighten the image with gamma correction.

Photocopies of originals grayscale also suffer from over-breeding dark and blotchy, but this is by no means limited to Samsung lasers. It seems that the matrix of the scanner head collides with that of the print head, a bit like moire patterns you see when scanning a picture from a newspaper.

The machine uses a single piece drum and toner cartridge and is available in 1,000 and 2,500 pages capacity. Using the higher yield indicates a consumables cost per page of 2.80p, including 0.7p for paper.

Samsung SCX-4623F Review

This is not bad for a device in this price range and Samsung does not show too much on consumables to deliver meaningful commercial pricing. Since the SCX-4623F is aimed at the SOHO market, a 2,500-page capacity means you do not change cartridges every month.

Conclusion

Adding a fax and automatic document feeder for the SCX-4600 is a very useful personal all-in-one on the SCX-4623F. The whole machine is well designed and the operation is simple and mostly clear. The extra screen print ID and print functions are useful, but Samsung could make more of them by labeling the buttons! Print quality is good, speed is improved and operating costs are very moderate for a budget device. All in all, this is a great do-it-all accessories for a small office where color printing is not essential.

Epson WorkForce 520 Review

March 3rd, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Epson, Printer Reviews

It is a direct replacement for the Epson WorkForce 310, but the added feature is wireless printing available at same price. The model is not perfect and it is certainly not a choice for high volume photo printing, however, copy and fax functionality, plus 30-page automatic document feeder, Ethernet networking, wireless printing and 5-cartridge slot is recommended for small offices with less printing tasks.

Epson WorkForce 520 Review

WorkForce 520 design and shape are reminiscent of WorkForce 310 with very simple variations which lies across the front panel of the device to control. The ropes in the same elegant curve of ADF input tray and identical dimensions measuring 18.1in 21.3in 11.9in wide and deep high and print mode with the trays folded. Like 310, even 510 control panel includes 2-line LCD display that for the characters to be scrolled horizontally to display instructions and tips for when the paper jams when you incorrectly install the print cartridges. The display is capable of 60 speed dial / group dial fax numbers, 5 of them can autodial of shortcuts to the far right of the screen to keep.

The other things in the control panel are usually the usual shortcut buttons for functions such as faxing, scanning and copying, a directional arrow key, group keys for fax machines, 5 autodial buttons and keys to jump between black and white versus color printing.

Print speeds of 520 are congruent with other all-in-ones Epson family. The text output rate from Epson is an advantage for small sectors that many e-mails or MS Word documents to print every day. HP Photosmart eStation All-in-One Review

March 2nd, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in HP, Printer Reviews

HP thinks big when it comes to printing. The new Photosmart esta stationed state owes a fast color inkjet with an exclusive extra Seas which is called a removable touch-screen interface that runs Android OS 2.1. The printer has several features that are found in PCs and tablets, such as e-reading and surfing the web.

HP Photosmart eStation All-in-One Review

The Seas as a control panel works really well. Reading the screen menus is simple and easy on the large 7-inch color touchscreen. However, the main weakness is the sensitivity. It’s slow in recognizing and cranes for a time could wipe instead of a crane. When you limit, you will still be able to e-All-In-One printer, make sure you get the print from SD cards stacked in the top slot boarded and web pages to print. The organization seems to be logical extension of HP’s Web-app approach.

If a multifunction printer, esta tion is sufficient for general home use. It brings in a 125-sheet input tray with an integrated 20-sheet photo tray has. The output tray for 50 pages is located above the tray’s wrap. Automatic duplexing feature is of course concerned and it works well on both PC and Mac. Like many other multifunction printers, it does not include automatic document feeder for scanning multipage documents. You will only Letter/A4 flatbed scanner. You can immediately scan to a memory card using the string, not a PC. To do that using HP’s software (buy software) that the task of managing a linked computer system scan.

De esta station printer performance above average. For plain text, has a rate of about 8.4 pages per minute on the PC and the Mac is the rate 8.3ppm. Of color images on plain paper is very fast at a rate of 3.8ppm. Regular scans and copies quickly done with a percentage corresponding upper-middle range.

The quality of the print is thumbs up. The text on plain paper looks dark and crisp. The photographs are wonderful with a fairly impressive color on glossy paper from HP. However, the same photos on plain paper look slightly washed out.

HP Photosmart eStation All-in-One Review

We would expect that as expensive as a multifunctional esta station to a rope in more economic-based inks. Unfortunately, the prices are just mediocre. The standard-size cartridges consist of a 250-page, $ 12 4.8cents/page that black and 300-page, $ 10 magenta, cyan and yellow results in 3.3cents/page resources. So everything comes together to 14.8cents/four-color page. Surprisingly, high production deliveries are considerably cheaper. The 800 page, $ 35 black 4.4cents/page ie, while each 750-color page costs $ 18 and 11.6cents/four-color 2.4cents/page results page. The fifth-black color photo is priced at $ 10 for a standard format that can persist for about 130 copies of 4X6inch photos. The high-yield 290-size photo costs $ 18.

Conclusion

De esta station with his tablet Seas will certainly surpass other high-end home multifunction printers. The main reason to accept the high prices is the fact that the Seas that includes the basic tablet functions operate. If you want to just go buy. But you have many options in the market for the same price.

HP LaserJet Pro CP1025nw Review

March 1st, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in HP, Printer Reviews

HP LaserJet CP1025nw Pro is a single-function color laser printer that works via USB, 10/100 Ethernet or 802.11 Wi-Fi. And despite its compact desktop design is not too much property, its pokey four pass print speeds take much of your time.

Compared with many HP printers we reviewed recently, the CP1025nw offers little in the way of features. While several current inkjet printers offer large touch screen menus (and even Android tablets), the CP1025nw is based on a series of small flashing LEDs next to the printed icons to alert you to paper, print jobs to cancel possible, and you change let the diminutive cartridges.

HP LaserJet Pro CP1025nw Review

With no onboard menu system, the printer can effectively wireless networks, which is surprising. And although it may seem a hassle to use your computer to the printer settings to configure Wi-Fi, it is much easier than using the arrow keys on the printer that most controls should offer typing SSID of a network.

One feature that I expect to find, but is not compatible with HP’s and Apple’s ePrint AirPrint. Although once planned for the end of 2010, and has ePrint AirPrint support is delayed for several months, but a specific date is not set.

The CP1025nw comes with a lower capacity “starter” cartridges, which is typical for laser printers. When these cartridges run out, the standard cartridges yield 1,000 pages each for cyan, magenta and yellow, and 1,200 pages for black. Using the prices of these HP.com toner prices for a little over 4 cents per black page and 21 cents per page to translate for four-color output.

To keep its size down, HP uses a carousel design for the four toner cartridges. Installing the yellow cartridge, tap the button next to the icon and the yellow toner carousel access to the yellow cartridge. When printing, you can clearly hear the carousel at work. Send CP1025nw a color job, and you can hear the printer working on a color, chug, besides color, chug, besides color, chug, the color, print.

HP LaserJet Pro CP1025nw Review

As you can imagine, this four-pass process takes considerably longer than when printing a black and white pages, or print on a single pass color laser printer. In our tests with a time limit, the CP1025nw eked a Fair rating in both our three-page color PDF, color printing proofs, with some of the slowest times we’ve seen. In our monochrome test text document, the printer is on average slightly more than ten pages per minute, which earned it a good rate compared to other color lasers we’ve tested. First, our grayscale print PDF took much longer to complete because the printer would use all four colors to print. Clicking the Print button in grayscale in the print driver again halved. We have faster times in our ratings calculations.

In terms of quality, was deemed CP1025nw Superior text printing capabilities, but our judges were not impressed with the color graphics test results. Our test showed that the CP1025nw tend to print dark, oversaturated colors with jagged diagonal lines and curves.

The HP LaserJet CP1025nw Pro is best suited for people with limited space and mostly print in black and white. Otherwise, the slow color print speeds, dark and oversaturated prints and high costs per page make this four-pass color printer is difficult to be excited without oem software.

Brother MFC-6890CDW Professional Review

February 28th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Brother, Printer Reviews

The Brother MFC-6890CDW multifunction inkjet printer improves Brother MFC-6490CW multifunction, adding duplex capability and a touch screen. Although it could do with faster speeds, this A3 capable printer is still a valuable addition to the cost-conscious office.

The Brother MFC-6890CDW multifunction inkjet including USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections, wired connections with the two hidden under the cover of the scanner. PictBridge-compatible USB devices directly to the MFC-6890CDW and the multimedia card reader supports CompactFlash, SD, MemoryStick and xD media. The multifunction has a 50-sheet automatic document feeder.

There are two front-facing trays on A3 and A4 media separated and she is a total of 350 sheets. The A3 input and output trays must both be extended to accommodate more media, but overall, this printer is not a behemoth.

The multifunctional use of a 4.2in widescreen LCD touch panel. The quality of the screen is impressive, but it helps with menu navigation, and notifications settings. It stops responding during a task, but you can still access other functions when this is done by pressing one of the function buttons.

A final feature that is available directly from the MFC-6890CDW multifunction can restrict access to certain functions. Up to 21 users can be configured with password protection with help of discount software and different levels of access to the copy, fax, scan and print functions. You can also restrict users to print color or black and white.

The MFC-6890CDW multifunction does not provide a web-based interface, but remote control can be performed using an accompanying application (which is compatible with both Mac OS and Windows).

Brother MFC-6890CDW Professional Review

Print speeds are somewhat slow for an inkjet multifunction at this price. The Brother MFC-6890CDW is printed on the first page of a design monochrome A4 document in 13.5sec and the subsequent pages with a speed of 16.4 pages per minute. At normal quality, this speed drops to 4.8ppm. Color printing of documents about the same rate: 16.4ppm using draft quality and 3.4ppm using normal. The MFC-6890CDW multifunction, A3 black and white documents at a rate of 5.7ppm using draft quality and 3.2ppm in normal quality, A3 while the colors to print documents at 6 ppm and 2 ppm, respectively.

Printing is surprisingly fast, however. Using the “fine” setting, 4x6in photos printed in 22sec, and it took 1min 38sec to print an A4 photograph. A3 photo prints in 4min 40sec.

Print quality is quite good in general. A4 documents have crisp characters who manage to escape in search of black ink and color documents are vibrant without oversaturated. 4x6in photos printed on the lack of banding we found using the Brother MFC-6490CW. They have a fairly neutral color palette overall, this is not suitable for producing bright and very colorful pictures, but there are no major quality issues. Scans are fast and good results. Colors to match the original source and fine detail is shown sufficiently.

Scaling documents acceptable to print on A3 work, our test mono documents survived the transition to A3 without any problems. Unfortunately, our color test document suffered from severe horizontal colored stripes when it was scaled up to A3 and despite trying a variety of print settings, we were not able to grow these brands. Fortunately, this problem was not found in A3 photos, which had the same neutral color palette like their counterparts A4. The MFC-6890CDW multifunction inkjet not match the quality of dedicated photo printers such as the A3 Epson Stylus Photo R2880, but it will work well for in-house marketing materials. At 18.8c per A4 page, this multifunction is inexpensive supplies to help keep costs down.

Brother MFC-7440N Review

February 25th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Brother, Printer Reviews

We normally do not see a lot of multifunction laser printers, mostly because inkjets are simply better for printing high quality scans and photographs. However, the printer industry recently started to press the multifunction printer market, arguing that a laser cartridge can produce prints on a par with inkjets, but significantly better speeds. In the case of the Brother MFC-7440N, the latter is true, but the output quality is lacking. It has all the features of a multifunction printer including one-touch fax, optical character recognition scanning, customizable presets and an auto-feeding copier, but we would still prefer an inkjet multifunction for printing presentations and color scans.

Brother MFC-7440N Review

The Brother MFC-7440N is supposed to work in a variety of workplaces, including home office and work desktop, but Brother still has a lot to learn aesthetic. The plain gray matte finish of the rubber buttons on the control panel, there is nothing that this printer apart from ordinary, boring office printer design. While other manufacturers incorporate a distinctive style and unique design, the MFC-7440N looks like it is a few fashion tips from an Apple IIe. Looks aside, the unit itself is quite small at 12 cm high by 16.9 inches wide by 15.6 inches deep and weighs 24.4 pounds.

The Brother’s top loading automatic document feeder can hold 35 pages of original material for scanning, copying and faxing. Typical of most laser printers, the bottom loading paper input tray holds 250 sheets and can hold up to 8.5 inch by 14 inch legal size paper. Just above the input tray is Brother standard manual paper tray for printing labels, envelopes and other forms. The integrated output tray sits above the tray and is slightly recessed in the machine, but not to expand the printer, leaving you with a very tight to remove your finished prints. During our speed and quality tests, paper kept jamming in the tiny output slot.

The narrow panel on the face of the printer contains a small, two-line LCD and a host of rubber buttons for navigation, a quick start keys, dial pad, and four single touch fax. The LCD screen is not backlit, making it difficult to read in low light. Moreover, to save space on the panel, there is also a shift button that effectively adds four extra quick-dial fax keys. Next to the fax buttons are a series of buttons for each function, including the hook, resolution and again for the fax machine, and options to enhance the safe and copier and cancel buttons for the printer. The secure button makes it easy to access data stored in memory by introducing a self-selected four-digit password.

The MFC-7440N ships with a low level toner that will last for 1,000 page cycles. Brother sells a $ 50 standard replacement cartridge with discount software good for 1,500 pages and a high yield version 2600 for $ 65. About three cents per page, the cost competitive low compared with the average laser printer, but standalone laser printers will work for less (about two cents per page) do. In both cases, the cost per page for this Brother printer is absolutely unsuitable for a small to medium business environment.

Along with the typical USB cable, Brother includes the option to connect multiple users via the built-in 10/100 Base TX networks. It also has 32MB of onboard memory for storing data directly, but we have recently seen other printers in the same price range that have 64MB of memory.

Brother MFC-7440N Review

The Brother MFC-7440N performed reasonably well in our speed tests, on a par if not slightly faster than the average single and multifunction monochrome laser printer. We put it up against the Canon IMAGECLASS MF4270, a full-feature All-in-One and the Dell 1125, another mono laser multifunction. The Brother easily pulled ahead in the text and graphics speed tests, but suffered the most dramatic in black and white scanning: it scanned a black and white documents at a rate of 4.48 pages per minute, while Dell ended in May 1125, 96 pages per minute and the Canon burned at 12.19 pages per minute.

However, we want the print quality was as impressive as his speed. The text print tests on both 300 dots per inch (dpi) and 1,200 dpi. Each came out dark and consistent across the board with barely noticeable jagged edges in both large and micro-fonts, but it is fairly typical for a laser printer to produce quality text results. Unfortunately, we printed the graphics leave much to be desired. The grayscale graphics test showed visible cross hatching and stripes in black to white run, and a heavy amount of compression in the darker areas. The 600 by 2,400 dpi scans showed the best from all the features we tested, with excellent color reproduction and crisp, clean lines.
